The Bay Area Math Project and the Santa Clara Valley Math Project have joined together to design an ongoing series of virtual mathematics professional development for K-12 teachers. We will host them on Zoom. They are FREE this academic year. For more information and to register visit the link next to each workshop description. The elementary sessions are separate; you may register for as many as you want! The secondary sessions on modeling are a series; you need only register once

ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION OF FRACTIONS GRADES 3-5 In this session you will investigate the conceptual teaching of addition and subtraction of fractions.  We will explore how and when to use common multiples and find and use the greatest common factor.  Additionally, we will be linking hands-on manipulatives to addition and subtraction algorithms.  We will utilize the CCSS Progression Documents to model how to teach the beginnings of fractions through the algorithms. Date: January 8, 2022 from 9am to noon. Presenters: Suzanne Damm and Julie Sliva Spitzer
