Lurie Center Scholarship

 

The California Mathematics Council is supporting an annual scholarship honoring the memory of Lurie Center who dedicated her career as a teacher to improving the mathematical literacy of students. This award will enable three teachers of color (one from each CMC section) to attend the annual CMC Conference within their section. This Lurie Center Scholarship will cover for each teacher up to $500 in conference expenses such as room, board, travel, and instructional materials (with no more than $100 of the award to be used for instructional materials). Each awardee will also receive complimentary conference registration and a one year subscription to the ComMuniCator with CMC membership.

CMC-South members should also check on The Lurie Center Elementary Teaching Award which has different qualification criteria.

Criteria:

  • K-14 teacher of color
  • Teaching assignment includes mathematics
  • Commitment to help students learn mathematics

Application procedure:

Online Application 

Include a letter of recommendation from your supervisor addressing your encouragement of students to pursue mathematical literacy. The letter must be signed by your supervisor and  include the statement: “I certify that the above teaching assignment is correct and that I will provide this teacher the necessary release time for conference travel and attendance.”

**Please note that payment for expenses will be by reimbursement after the conference. You must complete a brief questionnaire and submit a reimbursement form with receipts attached for all expenditures.
