Our Mission

The California Mathematics Council (CMC) believes that all students have the capacity to become mathematically competent and confident when provided a rigorous and challenging mathematical program supported by high expectations.

The California Mathematics Council is committed to:

  • promoting professional activities that will ensure continual improvement towards excellence in the teaching of mathematics;
  • communicating with educators, parents, the public, and legislative bodies concerning issues related to teaching rigorous, challenging mathematics; and
  • increasing the diversity of membership of the California Mathematics Council and the diversity of leadership in mathematics education at the local, state, and national levels.

The Benefits of Membership

Membership in the California Mathematics Council entitles you to

  • our nationally renowned quarterly journal, the ComMuniCator,
  • advance notice of our conferences,
  • occasional documents published by one of our committees, and
  • involvement in the decisions of the council
  • have a voice with those who effect public and private education in California, the United States, and the world.

California members are automatically assigned a Section Membership based on their mailing address. Please join your 6,000 fellow educators and parents from California and across the nation as well as Canada and other foreign countries in making all this possible.

The California Mathematics Council has prepared a letter in support of the most recent draft Mathematics Framework. We are seeking signatures to support this effort from mathematicians, scientists, statisticians, educators, parents, caregivers, advisory groups, community members, and anyone who is interested in giving each student in California access to a quality mathematics education.
