To support these commitments through our actions, CMC has four committees that work to provide our members with resources, information, and support. Our committees are:
Membership SupportThe goal of Membership Support is to provide outreach to our members to ensure that all teachers of Mathematics (Pre-K - College) feel they are included in our membership with an emphasis on outreach to rural areas and bringing administrators to the table. We work to communicate with educators, parents, the public, and legislative bodies concerning issues related to teaching rigorous, challenging mathematics; and we seek to increase the diversity of our membership and leadership in mathematics education at the local, state, and national levels. Communication and Social MediaThe Communication and Social Media Committee seeks to support our members through multiple avenues, including the CMC ComMuniCator, monthly CMC e-blast, and through social media via Twitter and Facebook. The Communication and Social Media Committee works with CMC’s three sections and committees to coordinate and communicate with all members. Outreach and AdvocacyThe Outreach and Advocacy Committee exists to advocate for the CMC’s priorities regarding legislation, state policy, and other relevant initiatives, as well as to maintain and establish relationships with other organizations and agencies. Equity & Social TransformationThe EST committee understands issues of and related to mathematics equity as socially, economically, politically, and structurally bound. We are particularly interested in whose mathematical knowledge is valued and affirmed in the classroom and beyond. The EST committee acknowledges that issues of equity in schools are broad and vast and are therefore committed to addressing inequity and transforming inequitable systems at various levels of organization. EST understands mathematics equity to be a commitment to an ethic of love and care for all people, and the subsequent and necessary work it takes in order to increase mathematical learning opportunities for all young people to thrive. As such, EST is a dynamic committee that engages in multi-year projects aimed at:
